Why We’re Better
Reason # 1: Immersion in the material
A former practicing attorney with an MBA and over 11 years of legal operations experience, I am a recognized expert in the field who has placed over 50 articles in major legal publications and been quoted over 50 times by the same. I have worked for some of the biggest names in the field, including Elevate Services— one of the biggest legal operations consultancies— UpLevel Ops— an elite legal technology consultancy— and Wolters Kluwer ELM Solutions, one of the world’s biggest providers of legal technology.
My expertise is deepest in legal technology and outside counsel management. In the legal technology space, I have helped dozens of organizations define their needs and identify and vet technology that works for them, and later worked in product management, market intelligence and thought leadership for Wolters Kluwer. At Wolters Kluwer, I worked with hundreds of clients to understand their technology needs and design analytics and other product offerings to help them manage their organizations.
In terms of outside counsel management, I designed and built all the processes and reporting mechanisms for a $156B organization as part of my first engagement with Elevate Services. Later, at Wolters Kluwer, I was the person primarily responsible for all the benchmarking research mined from LegalVIEW Data Warehouse, the world’s leading source of performance benchmarking for corporate law departments, and worked with hundreds of clients to understand and improve their outside counsel management techniques.
Reason # 2: Immersion in the legal ops community
I got my start in legal operations in 2014 volunteering for CLOC— the biggest professional networking organization in legal operations— in Silicon Valley back before they even had a bank account, and have worked for some of the biggest names in legal operations, including Elevate Services, CLOC co-founder Stephanie Corey’s consulting outfit (UpLevel Ops), and one of the biggest legal technology companies in the world (Wolters Kluwer ELM Solutions). I worked at Wolters Kluwer for over 5.5 years analyzing both the legal technology market and the market for outside legal services under the tutelage of a retired legal technology executive with over 30 years in the industry and the contacts to match. He put me on a cadence of regular weekly meetings with some of the most experienced legal industry executives in the world, who generously provided me the opportunity to hone my perspective against theirs. I have kept in touch with these valuable contacts and continue to have one catch up meeting per day with those in my network. If I do not know the answer to your question, my network will.
Reason # 3: Simplicity and candor
I worked hard for the last 20 years to become 100% debt-free and design a simple, sustainable lifestyle, which I relish. This liberates me to focus on doing work that I enjoy and that I sincerely believe in, even where another approach might be more lucrative. I do not feel any pressure to sell you services that I would not myself buy. I have the luxury of recommending simple, inexpensive solutions when they exist. I do not need to drag projects out or make things more complicated than they need to be. And if I am not the best person to help you with your problem, I can afford to tell you so.
Reason # 4: Zero bureaucracy
Larger consulting organizations have layers and layers of salespeople, account managers, marketers, HR people, and other folks who, from your perspective, may not be adding any value. I have chosen to dispense with those individuals and give you direct access to the product— my expertise. If you are looking for a consultant who has the luxury of focusing 100% on solving client problems and doesn’t have to justify that to other stakeholders, I’m your man.
